The month of August is here, and I am so excited for my favorite time of year - fall. Listed below are some trends that we might see this season based on similarities across different designers in the categories of shape, color, texture, patterns, details, and featured accessories.

Let's start with shape! There was a mix of a-line, hourglass, and inverted triangle shapes that stood out the most, achieved through main pieces, separates, and accessories. A-line silhouettes can be created by wearing midi-length skirts, a-line style dresses, swing and trapeze style coats, as well as jackets that are fitted in the shoulders and gradually flaring out. Next, the hourglass shape, notably achieved by defining the waistline. This could be done either with belts or dart seams at the natural waist, and even with a good flared pant leg or a wide max skirt. The inverted triangle shape we have wide shoulders and drawn-in waists. This could be created in the use of structured blouses, blazers, and jackets that taper in and stop at the waist, and slim leg pants or pencil skirts.
The colors of the season varied in shade and were all over the color wheel. It seemed that purple was favored quite a bit, in many different shades. There were some other interesting random colors, such as bright and burgundy red, fern green, cerulean blue, baby pink, and dusty rose. Alternatively, there were also rich shades of black, and both light and dark shades of brown and grey.

Fun textures for this fall season have a main focus on faux fur and lace in various colors. Of course, there are also the staples of leather and velvet for the chilly times of the season. The patterns brought out were mainly cheetah and leopard animal print, as well as traditional and windowpane styles of plaid in muted colors.

There were also some really cute details that were included to create cohesive looks that are worth bringing up. First, there was the use of Victorian bodice silhouettes that were drawn in at the waist and had a close fit of the hips. We also saw feminine style blouses that had ruffles, bows, or eyelet fabric details, as well as embellishments on garments such as beading, fringe, and large brooches. Other soft style details were matching two-piece sets, mainly a matching skirt and either a sweater or jacket, but we did also see combinations of matching vest and pants sets.

Accessories to note were abundant this season! Shoes are coming in with an assortment of comfortable but also stylish options, with derbies, brogues, loafers, and flat mules, but also fashion pumps if you're looking for an option with height, as well as some select styles of sneakers for a casual option. One style in particular that I see that blends casual comfort with an elegant flair would be the ballet style sneakers, featuring the sneaker silhouette with a ballet shoe style lace-up. Hats also had quite a few options that could be cohesive with several types of looks. A variety of vintage-style wide-brims and berets, along with cold-weather options such as ushankas, beanies, and balaclavas. There were even a few cowboy hats, caps, bonnets, and headbands. Truly a grand variety of hats, and some even paired with a vintage-style scarf layered over or underneath. In terms of scarves, there were also some thick knit options worn with outerwear, a wonderful combination for those with cold months ahead. In terms of belts, those were lighting up natural waistlines in leather with defined buckles, and sometimes layered upon each other. Lastly, for purses, we saw a variety of large, relaxed styles, including soft satchels and totes, as well as some clutches in different sizes and cross-body styles.
