Winter 2025 Fashion Trends
Dec 6th 2025
Winter is here! Gosh, it’s so cold. With that in mind, I am ready to discuss fashion for a colder time of year (for some). Listed below are some trends we might see this season, based on similarities across designers in categories of shape, color, texture, patterns, details, and featured accessories, as well as the new category of specific fashion styles.

Starting with shape, there are long rectangles, hourglass, and oversized silhouettes. The long rectangles feature tailored overcoats, pencil skirts, and relaxed-fit pants, with the option to cinch the waist with a belt, transforming a long rectangle into an hourglass shape.

Oversized silhouettes were achieved with chunky knit sweaters, large blazers, and cocoon coats.

Moving on to color, there are the basic neutrals in shades of grey, brown, and black. This was also accompanied by burgundy, mustard yellow, and dark-wash denim. Also seen were pops of bright colored accessories on a neutral base to add a bit of something extra to a look.
Delving into texture, we have quite a few. There is, of course, suede and leather, with faux fur staying on trend from fall. There were also traditional options of wool and tweed, seasonal favorites such as corduroy, and some use of sheer fabric for layering.

Playing around with patterns, starting with moving on from the muted plaids from this past fall to tartan plaid styles for winter. There were also contemporary styles like camouflage, as well as traditional patterns like houndstooth, herringbone, and argyle. Also seen are a variety of alternative animal prints ranging from cheetah to zebra.

Several distinct details are coming this season in terms of styles and specific items. There were matching sweater loungewear sets for an effortless and stylishly cozy fit. Some details particular to the winter season included different types of layering, either with tops or in monochromatic options.
Winter will offer plenty of selections for staying warm, such as collarless outerwear, large scarves and capes, military-style jackets, and fair-isle sweaters.

To combat the cold, a fun combination is seen by pairing technical outdoor jackets with fashionable pieces.

Also appearing are statement skirts, collared knits, and rugby shirts.

Some other fun pieces for this season are unique denim and jeans, with painted or dyed fabric, or adornment.

Featured accessories would include seasonal favorites for cold-weather gear and other interesting style accoutrements. Starting with footwear, there are a plethora of boots, in patent leather and suede, with slouchy and over-the-knee styles. Other boot options include Alpine, as well as Wellington style - more generally known in my mind as fashion-forward snow or rain boots.

In this season’s hat options, there are a few varieties. Winter brings the classic need to stay warm with knitted hoods, but also unique structured hats such as pillbox, baker boy, and newsboy.

For the handbag options, much attention was paid to the overall structure of the bags. There are extra-large clutches, as well as top handle, elongated, and utility styles to serve practical needs for the season, with so much to carry in just one handbag. Also seen were studded options that bring us back to the age-old style of opposites attracting.

For another seasonal favorite, there is the long glove. A beloved accessory in vintage style, the long glove can add that extra bit of stylish flair while keeping those precious digits warm. A few featured accessories stayed on trend from fall, including faux fur, brooches, and layering belts.

Lastly, the newest category: specific fashion styles for the season. An interesting style called heritage chic. Inspired by fabrics and styles worn in the British countryside. “Heritage” fabrics are specifically designated as natural fibers, such as wool, tweed, and leather. The styles include timeless country staples such as tall boots, plaid, sweaters, wax-cotton barn jackets, and tailored blazers and coats. The chic part of it is pairing the “heritage” with modern fashion items. The items classified as modern could be as eclectic as the wearer chooses. While we love mixing vintage and modern at Independent Charm, this style also utilizes modern elements that simply fit the timeless heritage aesthetic.
